Rina Sawayama (born on 16 August 1990) in Niigata, Japan. She is a Japanese-British model, singer, songwriter.

Career

Sawayama started her career in 2013. She released her solo album “Sleeping in Walking” on April 22, 2013, directed by Jack Greeley-Ward.

After that, she released the single “Terror” in October under the stage name of “Riina”. She released a single “Where U Are”, directed by Rina Sawayama by Alessandra Kurr and produced by Hoost and Rina Sawayama in 2016. In 2017, she released a music video “Tunnel Vision”, produced by Hoost and directed by Arvida Byström.

She explained, “Online, you can produce your best-prepared self [and] your overheating phone substitutes human warmth. Weirdest of all–you’re together, but also very alone.” She has expressed the song as “sentimental greatness, ultra-sweet, shimmering pop, and “90s Rhythm and blues pop perfection”.

She lived in her native Japan until the age of five. Her family moved to London, where she grew up and currently lives. She holds an indefinite permanent residency “PR” visa in the UK.

While still being a student of politics, psychology, and sociology at Magdalene College, Cambridge, she engaged in music and modeling. Rina Sawayama graduated from the university and holds a degree in political science. In May 2020, Sawayama stated she was doing an online course at the University of Oxford.
